If you’ve been coming to the winery for a while, you know there is one grape that we are particularly fond of. One, that really shines a sparkle in John Balistreri’s eye when he talks about it, especially when its really good. Well, get ready to see our faces brighten as this new Syrah from Avant Vineyard splashes through the tasting room!
We’ve talked about our trusted relationship with Avant Vineyards many times, and its no news how wonderful the Grand Valley grapes from Neil & Diane Guard are. But, this 2022 vintage presented some challenges. Recovering from the horrible late freeze of 2021 and a year without a crop, this next vintage ripened slowly. Fingers crossed, bracing against rain and the coming cold, Avant Syrah was picked nearing mid-October with proper ripeness. Phew!
Aromas are quintessential Syrah – dark plum, green olive, and sweet tobacco leaf. Each sip is complex and delicious with flavors of plum translating nicely to the palate, surrounded by subtle spice, savory charms and smooth textures. The finish has finesse, leaving behind its youthful burden of tannin and balancing it with good acidity and liveliness. We’re huge fans of this new vintage from the Avant vineyard, and its an exciting addition to the all-star packed lineup in the tasting room right now!
