Wine Club November 2025 | 2023 Syrah | Whitewater Hill Vineyard

It has been a long time since a Syrah was wine of the month. Both the Avant and this Whitewater Hill showed incredibly young after bottling last Fall. So, we decided to continue pouring through other vintages and allow these ripe 2023s to settle and soften. With just another year in the bottle, this vintage of Whitewater Hill Vineyard Syrah has transformed into a delicious and complex bottle, perfectly suited for a new Fall release!

Balistreri Syrah is always a wine of intriguing and dynamic flavors. It is easily one of our favorite grapes to work with and remains exciting vintage-to-vintage due to its diversity of flavors and expression of terroir. Importantly, we always ferment Syrah whole-cluster which means we do not de-stem the grapes. It is a varietal that asks for this kind of ferment, and the result are Syrahs with spicy and complex earthy flavors. The 2023 vintage was very ripe, and these grapes came in a little higher in sugar than normal. This translated into a longer ferment and more extraction, making for a Syrah that has immense fruit forward flavors, but also more tannin and body than normal. Hence why we waited a year to release it! But time does reward you when it comes to wine, and this Syrah is no exception.

The 2023 Whitewater Syrah is wrapped in complex green sensations, and smells of mint, spruce, sweet green olives, and subtle juniper berries. Raspberry is forward on the palate, shining across your tongue with fresh acidity and energy. This is a fantastic vintage of Balistreri Syrah that is perfect to enjoy young with anything off the grill, hearty Fall foods, or set aside and enjoy over the next 10-12 years.
