Wine Club June 2025 | 2023 Nebbiolo

Sunshine and red wine? Our orange-style wines are great chilled down, in the backyard under some shade or warm evenings enjoyed with dinner on a patio. But seldom do you hear about chilling a bottle of red. When wine gets cooler, you can sometimes lose a lot of the character, flavor, mouthfeel and experience of a wine, particularly in red varieties. However, softer and lighter wines are sometimes enhanced when sipped several degrees cooler – this Nebbiolo is one of those chillable summer reds!

Now, we don’t recommend having our new 2023 Nebbiolo as cold as a white wine; 50-55 degrees is ideal, but 45 might be too cold. Nebbiolo is an Italian variety known for its elegance and high tannin. Getting it too cold can diminish the fruit and floral notes of this wine, but if its just right you will notice a freshness and crisp sensation that flows over its youthful tannins.

The wine’s finish is dry, but having that structure is great not only with lighter foods off the grill, but is also what typically makes this variety so age worthy. The 2023 vintage is lighter in body though, remaining lean and agile on the palate. While this will not be the most long lived Nebbiolo, it will certainly be enjoyed the quickest! Its approachable, fresh and pretty with Strawberry flavors surrounded by a classic floral note of rose petals. If you are looking to cellar this wine, 6-8 years will really transform the fruit and develop those classic rustic Italian flavors. In the meantime, chill a bottle in the fridge for 1 hour and enjoy this fun tasty red all summer long!
