That summer heat is here! We hope you’re getting outside, enjoying sunshine and Balistreri wines! This month’s selection is a wonderful vintage of Grenache that is perfect for sipping on the patio!
Grenache is a very versatile and dynamic grape. The range it can carry across vintages and regions is vast. Grenache can be dense and bold with dried fruit and savory herbal notes, or soft juicy and floral. This 2023 is certainly showcasing the latter – expressing a more vibrant vintage. The wine is bright and light ruby in color, telling you right away that its looking to be enjoyed quickly and chilled! This lighter vintage is in no way without complexity and intense flavors. Aroma is floral with cranberry and strawberry fruit. As you sip this wine you immediately notice its lightness, acidity, and levity as it glides across your palate. Strawberry dominates other subtle sensations of summer flowers and vanilla wafer.
Most Grenache are known for carrying an ample amount of tannin, and this Month’s wine is no exception. The finish is deliciously dry and makes for a rewarding conclusion that compliments the earlier brightness. This dry finish and tannin is a pleasant transition in the wine and allows you to pair it with many different things – everything from light finger foods and cheeses to anything fatty off the grill. While we recommend having this wine slightly chilled given its lighter body, don’t get it too cold! You might lose some of the roundness and flavors at lower temperatures. Whatever you do, make sure you enjoy this wine with friends, family, and be sure to get two bottles! It tends to leave glasses fast, and one won’t be enough!
