So-so… SuZo… say what? Its Sousão! Pronounced ‘so-sow’, this dark skinned Portuguese grape is making its Wine Club debut and kicking off 2025! Indigenous to the North of Portugal, it is known for making lighter bodied red wines with superiorly dark color. Having made our Ports with Sousão for many years, it was only last vintage that we began making it as a dry wine. This new 2023 is a wonderful expression of this varietal, and of what Colorado grown Sousão can do.
Grown in the Grand Valley of Colorado, the vines are relatively young but packed with depth and intensity. Our Sousão is deep in color – resembling black ink with purple edges. However, for how dark it is in the glass, the wine drinks remarkably medium to light in body. The acidity is vibrant and keeps the dark blackberry flavors juicy and splashing. A real crowd pleaser, we think this Sousão is more than versatile and compliments the start of any occasion!
