When looking in the glass, this Petite Sirah’s dark purple edge echoes across the aromas and flavors of this wine. The nose is crushed black plum with popping spice of peppercorn, cinnamon sticks, and fresh cut roses. On the tongue the fruit shifts to being vibrant, juicy, and is balanced with further spice before finishing creamy and textured. Tannin is there in its youth, but easily ignored as each sip coats your palate with lushness so quintessential to Balistreri Petite Sirah! Description
The 2024 Petite Sirah is different from our regular production. Being a “Brother’s” wine, the grapes are actually sourced from our cousin in Lodi, California. Joe Spano is John Balistreri’s 2nd cousin and got the nickname ‘Brother’ when he was a young boy – so many extended family members named Joe! Brother passed away several years ago, but his son, another Joe, continues to farm their 40 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and a smaller 8 acre vineyard of Petite Sirah. Old vines are ‘head trained’ to look like bushes in this Petite Sirah vineyard, allowing for good airflow which is ideal for this grape and its tight clusters.
