Description

This 2019 Sangiovese had twenty-four months of barrel aging. This extended time in barrel softened some of the intense fruit resulting in a very smooth cherry flavor on the pallet and a mellow mouthfeel that is reminiscent of fine barrel aged cognac.

Sangiovese is a very common grape in it’s home country of Italy, but it’s actually difficult to find here in the states. This year we paired up with our growers in Amador County (where we get our Carignan) who have a small, relatively old vine vineyard planted to the famous Tuscan varietal. Not only that, but these Sangiovese vines are actually a special clone sourced from Brunello, one of the greatest wine regions in the world!

Unlike most Sangiovese on the market, our rendition is made completely naturally without sulfites or additives. Instead of using new oak, we prefer to use seasoned barrels that are more neutral. This let’s you really taste the intensity of the fruit (which this vintage has plenty of). We also like to bottle Sangiovese early to capture the bright, fresh quality that is so delicious in the summer.

Right from the start, this wine explodes from the glass with bright and bouncy aromas of cherry and candied fruit. On the palate there is incredible body and intensity, yet it somehow remains balanced and smooth. Although this wine was just recently bottled, it’s already confident and expressive now. Pair this with everything from grilled dishes to Italian cuisine… You won’t be disappointed!
