Ahh.. summer weather is such a relief. Certainly a lot of rain over May, which is great, but these sunny June days really fit the tone of excitement we feel as our patio and tasting room are now in full swing.
As for the wine of the month, this 2019 Cabernet Franc is delicious and is going to be an awesome companion for all your summertime meals.
2019 Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc is a cold-hardy vigorous varietal, planted widely on the Western Slope of Colorado. The dry climate, high altitude, and ample sunlight produce a distinct terroir that is unique as opposed to other regions growing Cabernet Franc. Different from its origin country, France, in Colorado we often see a more ripe and fruitier expression of Franc, alongside exciting vegetal earth tones. This 2019 comes from Beach House Vineyard – a tiny plot tucked away in the vine lands near the Colorado River. It carries the Colorado terroir typical of Cabernet Franc, having dusty notes on the nose with green pepper that leans towards preserved pepper jelly. Pallet is texturally different from last years, with vibrant acidity and structure but stays easy drinking and fresh. This vintage was de-stemmed which attributes to the more playful fruit and super approachable pallet. A great option to enjoy as we start to break out the shorts and fire up the grill; complimenting many of those classic smoky summer dishes.
